About a month before releasing EXHALE to the public I mentioned that we were producing a non-habit forming anti-anxiety product while at a dinner. Up till that point the evening could have been described with one word, tranquil, but now the room was full of questions with curious eyes.

I was flooded with questions from “can I buy one right now?”, to “can you take it if you’re taking antidepressants”. When I asked if everyone in the room considered themselves as suffering from anxiety there was a unanimous and resounding “Yes!”.

It was a sobering moment for me. Like many, I assumed that I was the only one in the group who regularly succumbed to the antagonist of the mind, anxiety. It’s the silent killer of present moment and logical thought. By siloing our spirit from its rightful position at the helm of our mind body meat suit, anxiety has become a systemic cultural issue.

So after many months of experimenting with ingredients our formulator Joel Rines and co-founder Jónsi finally found a winning combo; we can now proudly say VONA is an active participant in the fight against anxiety!

Meet Exhale.

Anti-anxiety tincture

When we tried the first batch, all of us were shocked, we never realized that these ingredients, when combined properly, could taste so playfully powerful. The frankincense, reshi, and holy basil give it this earthy fresh feeling while the B6 and l-theanine add an almost citrus note to the finish. It tastes like what an exhale feels like, satisfying.

Here are ALL of the Ingredients in EXHALE, our anti-anxiety tincture:

  • Organic MCT Oil
  • Frankincense
  • Holy Basil
  • L-Theanine
  • Vitamin B6
  • Reishi mushroom extract
  • Broad-Spectrum CBD (0% THC)

Now, let’s break down our rationale for choosing them:

Jónsi has a fondness for Frankincense essential oil, so it was no surprise when he asked us to make sure we included it during our ingredient selection phase. It’s been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries to improve gut and oral health. The calming sweet mineral flavor and spicy citrus undertones make it very popular with essential oil connoisseurs seeking calm and relaxed states.

The focus of many clinical trials, L-Theanine has been shown to regulate the body’s response to stressful situations through the endocannabinoid system via the GABA system. GABA, a neurotransmitter that sends chemical messages to the brain and nervous system, plays a critical role in controlling fear and anxiety in the brain.

L -Theanine increases GABA levels which in turn improves mental function, anxiety, impairment, and stress. When taken in combination with CBD and vitamin B56, L-Theanine works to provide a powerful calming effect for the body.

Vitamin B6

B6 is a foundational vitamin that creates several neurotransmitters, such as GABA, serotonin, and dopamine—all vital to proper mood regulation. The body cannot produce B6 itself, so it’s critical that we seek it out in other foods and supplements. On top of its mood-regulating abilities, B6 also promotes brainpower and a healthy nervous and immune system.

Broad-Spectrum CBD (0% THC)

On the range of CBD forms, broad-spectrum CBD falls between full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. In comparison to CBD isolate, broad-spectrum CBD maintains its powerful aroma and flavor without the trace amounts of THC found in full-spectrum. We choose to add CBD in our formula because it’s been found to soothe anxiety and reduce stress in a broad range of people. To achieve powerful results while maintaining reasonable prices, each bottle of EXHALE contains 1000mg of premium broad-spectrum CBD extracted from hemp grown organically in the United States.

Organic MCT Oil

Organic MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oil has long been hailed by health experts as an effective ketogenic supplement that boosts brainpower and promotes a healthy gut. Found in foods such as coconut, avocado, and extra virgin olive oil, organic MCT oil is a fantastic supplement that the body can metabolize quickly unlike other saturated fatty acids. We choose to use a high-quality carrier MCT oil that allows for a larger concentration of the broad-spectrum CBD to be absorbed into the bloodstream.

Holy Basil

Holy basil, a spicy herb native to Southeast Asia, acts as an adaptogen—a natural substance with pharmacological properties that aid the body as it works to cope with stress and achieve a harmonious mental balance.

Reishi Mushroom extract

Reishi mushrooms, which long played a pivotal role in East Asian medicine, contain a wide variety of powerful properties and antioxidants that help improve cognitive function. It’s one of the most popular mushrooms and nootropics due to its immune system-boosting abilities. Reishi mushrooms’ therapeutic properties and complex sugars (beta-glucans) have been shown to help stop the growth and spread of cancer cells.

In combination with CBD, reishi mushroom extract can create a powerful adaptogenic effect.

Final thoughts

Our minds are the conduits through which consciousness flows though. So it’s of the utmost imperative that we hone a healthy mind body synergy and sometimes that means we need to turn to supplements to guide us back to our true and present self. Medicine should not be habit forming, it should assist us in our journey, not make us reliant on it.
